The Pembroke Pines Charter School Foundation Inc. is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) educational scholarship provider which was founded in 2004 to raise funds for the students and teachers of the Pembroke Pines Charter Schools. The board of directors is headed by the City Manager of Pembroke Pines, Charles F. Dodge.
Each year, teachers at the Pembroke Pines Charter Schools seeking to further their education can apply for $1,000 tuition reimbursement scholarships through the Foundation’s Mariela Espinel Teacher Scholarship Program. In 2007, 18 teachers received the award. Forms are made available in the spring and teachers are notified at their respective campuses of the application period and guidelines.
In addition, the Foundation provides several scholarships to graduating seniors from Pembroke Pines Charter High School. Students can receive up to $1,000 paid directly to their college or university in recognition for the categories of Perfect Attendance, Learning Service Hours, Jaguar Pride, Jaguar Perseverance, and Most Improved Student.
Since 2004 the foundation has raised over $670,000 through a variety of events and activities including the annual Franck C. Ortis golf tournament which raised $150,000 last year.
This year the Foundation has several more events scheduled, including our recent Soc Hop Social which raised close to $10,000 this past September at the SW Senior Focal Point in Pembroke Pines.
