WHAT IS ONE? When one takes a moment to reflect upon the effects of global poverty, the facts may seem quite overwhelming. Approximately 10 million children under the age of 5 die each year, many from preventable and curable diseases. About 77 million children of primary school age are not attending school. According to the UNAIDS AIDS Epidemic Update, there are about 39.5 million people living with HIV in the world today. As part of our ongoing efforts to raise public awareness about the issues of global poverty, hunger, disease and efforts to fight such problems worldwide, the students of Pembroke Pines Charter High School have joined together to form ONE Pines Charter. ONE engages students in discussions about these issues and provides them with the ability to participate in activities that contribute to the effort to end poverty in the immediate community and around the world. Join us for a series of information sessions, movie screenings, and community volunteer activities and events. Together, as ONE, we will end poverty. WHAT HAVE WE DONE? Since the launch ONE Pines Charter in January of 2008, we have:
WHERE ARE WE GOING? Visit Ms. De Pas in room D213 or send an email to President Rafael Batista for more information about the upcoming year. When are the meetings? Who are the ONE Pines Charter officers? Where can I find more information? |
