Pembroke Pines Charter Middle School Central Campus, 12350 Sheridan St, club T.R.O.O.P. (Teens Reaching Out to Other People) has a number of exciting events and Operations coming up!
T.R.O.O.P. is adopting Children’s Harbor for Mother’s Day on May 11th. The Club will make Mother’s Day gift baskets for the 5 teen foster mothers who live at Children’s Harbor, 19425 SW 58th Manor in Ft. Lauderdale. In addition, T.R.O.O.P. is scheduling a day in May to help organize Children’s Harbor’s donation garage!
On Tuesday, May 29th, T.R.O.O.P. will be visiting Memorial Manor, 777 S. Douglas Rd., to spread some cheer! They will deliver flowers, play board games with the residences and display their talents. On June 7th from 9-11am, T.R.O.O.P. will be mentoring the children of H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everyday) Outreach Center, Inc. in a fishing tournament called, “Take-A-Kid Fishin’ Rodeo” at Wolf Lake Park, 5400 SW 76 Avenue in Davie.

Pembroke Pines FSU Charter Elementary School, 601 SW 172nd Ave, raised over $6,000 during its 5th annual “Jump Rope for Heart” fundraiser for the American Heart Association! The students asked family and friends for donations and celebrated their heart-healthy success with a jump rope-a-thon! They will receive stickers, certificates, t-shirts, water bottles, jump ropes and more from the American Heart Association to thank them for their extraordinary efforts!

Dear Charter School Parents: Thank you to the many parents, teachers and residents who attended my Town Hall meeting this week. For those that couldn’t join us, in my individual capacity as a Commissioner, let me update you on the issues discussed. The meeting was called because Pembroke Pines Charter Schools face a financial crisis that must be resolved if the schools are to survive. If we don’t, the schools may need to close. The School Board of Broward County refuses to equally share your tax dollars with charter schools -- an intentional act of discrimination that favors “their” public schools over “ours” as they put it – a situation so abhorrent that your City Commission unanimously voted to sue the School Board to reverse this unjust determination.

Pembroke Pines Charter High School, 17189 Sheridan St, senior baseball players Robert Mesa and Anthony Bondarenko have received baseball scholarships from Nova Southeastern University, with fellow team mate Shawn Negron singing with Barry University. The players signed on April 14th at the High School surrounded by their teammates, Baseball Coach Carlos Iglesias, athletic director Craig Good, High School Principal Peter Bayer and their families. Senior Anthony Bondarenko plays right field and pitcher for the Jaguars, was awarded the Jaguars’ Coach's Award in 2007. Senior Robert Mesa is the Jaguars’ catcher, he received the Jaguars’ Coach's Award in 2007 and was named to Sun Sentinel’s All Broward Second Team in 2007. Shawn Negron plays First base and pitcher, he also received the Jaguars' Coach's award in 2007. These players have helped lead the Jaguars to their current 17-8 record this season. Shawn Negron is planning on majoring in Business Law/Sports Management. Robert will major in Business/Sports Management and Anthony will major in Business. “Robert and Anthony have been friends since they met as eight year old third graders, at the brand new (1998) West Campus of the Pembroke Pines Charter School, fast forward they are graduating from PPCHS and now they’ll be attending the same university and both playing baseball!” said proud mom Liz Mesa. “Where did the time go?”

During each grading quarter, the students at the Pembroke Pines Charter Schools, in elementary and at the middle school, will choose books from a carefully selected inventory of Reading Counts book. When students have completed a particular book they will take a quiz. Each quiz is assigned, “points.” Students are required to earn points that are specified by their respective campus.

All students must be in uniform each day. Navy blue bottoms, appropriate uniform shirt as well as uniform sweater and/or jacket. Solid navy blue jacket/sweater may be used. Please remember to put your child’s name in all sweaters, jackets and sweatshirts. Uniform On-Site Sales In-Unison has several upcoming on-site sales. Now is the time to purchase those uniforms, jackets and/or sweaters.

Please know that for school safety, children are not to arrive at school prior to 8:15 am or to remain on school grounds after 3:45 pm. The school has a supervised before and after school child care program for students who need to be dropped off or picked up earlier or later than the times listed above.
